Years ago I tried to interview him at La Scala. At the last minute, his agent turned it down. I knew he was going through a difficult time (personally and professionally).

We met Sonya Yoncheva at a Rolex event in Milan. She turned out to be a fun conversationalist with a sense of humor. She promised she would have an interview one day.
The day was on Saturday after his concert in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture.

Tomorrow after 9:30 Jonas Kaufmann in his first big interview for Bulgarian media.

Here's a little bit in advance:

JONAS KAUFMAN: My family loved music. We listened to it all the time. And we also loved the tater. But music was the big passion. Especially classical music. We listened to it on occasion, whether it was on the radio, whether it was on records... Or on a tape recorder. And we listened again, and again, and again. My grandfather used to play Richard Wagner's scores and mark the parts. So I grew up in a home where everybody played an instrument. We didn't just play for Christmas and New Year's, but at home we played every weekend. Music, real music held a very high standard in our home. The theater didn't step down and so - it was a wonderful combination and a foundation for becoming an opera singer because I benefited from both.
